Midjourney-generated images

discovering how it works ++ tests

In this section I explain my process and visually show how I did
those experiments. And my reflections on it.

I never used Midjourney before and I wanted to do some tests to compare it with Runway. I wanted to potentially use my analog pictures as a reference, or to train it. I am not familiar with it, so I don't know what are the possibilities with a Basic plan. I created a “moodboard” - which is supposed to use that to generate images with the same style as those from the moodboard. I used my analog pictures for the moodboard, so in theory the generated images whould resemble somehow my analogs.

I started using a promp such as “picture taken with a compact 80s analog camera of a forest where the colors have a lot of contrast and the green looks very striking“ to see where it was going to take me.

Midjourney allows you to select an image and make some variations of it, you can ask it to vary strongly or to vary subtle. I chose strongly for the second image. Below the results:I then tried another prompt to see if maybe I would get something closer to what I had in mind.. “picture taken with a compact 90s analog camera of a forest where the colors have a lot of contrast and the green looks very striking - the picture is taken by a human inside the forest and it is golden hour“ and selected the second image as the one I liked the most. I chose to vary it strongly and the resulting images are the ones underneath, and then chose to vary it subtle.
After testing the waters a bit, I discovered the Moodboard feature. I uploaded my analog pictures to Midjourney and created a Moodboard with them. It is quite different from the styleGan from Runway, but I wanted to go along with it and see if I could get pictures that resembled mine. I was looking for a similar vibe, to evoke certain feelings of nostalgia similar to the ones I get from when I look at my pictures. To be honest, at this point I was quite surprised from the results I got just from prompts. They are extremely aesthetically pleasant.
prompt used for the ones below is: “picture taken with a compact 90s analog camera of a forest where the colors have a lot of contrast and the green looks very striking - the picture is taken by a human inside the forest and it is golden hour but no human can be seen in the picture
I wasn´t very pleased with the results here, although the 2nd picture from the first row was interesting, and the first picture from the 3rd row. Overall I was not surprised. And didn´t really like them much. Did a subtle variation from the 1st picture of the 3rd row. And a subtle variation from the 2nd picture of the 1st row.

Tried a new prompt: “picture taken with a compact 90s analog camera of a forest where the colors have a lot of contrast and the green looks very striking - the picture is taken by a human inside the forest and it is golden hour. In the picture the only thing there is is vegetation, light from the sun reflected on some water on the floor. NO human figures.” First row are the resulting images and the following rows are subtle variations

Tried a new prompt, this time I wanted to se some ineriors. I was trying to draw from pictures I had taken in my analog camera in the past. Prompt: “analog picture of a kitchen, the picture is overexposed and the light looks yellow“.And did some subtle and strong variations.
After this tests, I used some of my pictures and descriptions as prompts together with my moodboard.

I made a video of my screen to better see the process behind it:
